Benicio del Toro expecting child with Kim Stewart

LOS ANGELES (AP) Benicio del Toro is becoming a father.

A spokeswoman for the 44yearold actor says del Toro is expecting a child with reality star Kimberly Stewart, who is Rod Stewart’s daughter.

Publicist Robin Baum says that “although they are not a couple,” del Toro and Kimberly Stewart are looking forward to the baby’s arrival.

She says, “Benicio is the father and is very supportive.”

Del Toro won an Academy Award for his supporting role in 2000′s “Traffic.” His other credits include “The Wolfman,” “Sin City” and “21 Grams.”

The 31yearold Stewart starred in the 2007 reality show “Living with … Kimberly Stewart.”

New Westminster Historical Society looks at first Canada’s first PM

The next New Westminster Historical Society evening will explore the life of John A. Macdonald, the first prime minister of Canada.

Local author Terry Julian has written a book on Macdonald—a figure powerfully linked to the formation and early development of this country. The book, An Ordinary Miracle: John A. Macdonald, chronicles his life, including a visit to the Royal City.

Julian will bring this story to the group on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the New Westminster Public Library. The program is free and no need to pre-register.

Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone and Jamie Chung talk about their close-knit friendship at the premiere of their action film ‘Sucker Punch.’

Despite the glamour and smiles at last night’s Australian premiere of Sucker Punch, all is not well with the action fantasy.

Set partly in a brothel and full of the kind of costumes that haunt the dreams of 14-year-old boys, the film is battling allegations of sexism from the critics.

Its Australian star, Emily Browning, who walked the red carpet at Event Cinemas in George Street last night, has hit back at the claims, telling the BBC the story is about ”girls breaking free”.

Library slide show takes you to Texas

Travel to Texas with a trip to the New Westminster Public Library.

Ron Long will show slides of the diverse natural history of Texas with its large, natural habitats ranging from lush, well-watered hill country to the desert of the big bend of the Rio Grande River to the Gulf Coast’s year-round mild climate.

The shows will be held Wednesday, April 6 at 2:30 p.m., and April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
