A jury has reached a guilty verdict in the involuntary manslaughter case against Michael Jackson’s doctor.
The verdict came Monday in the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray.
Prosecutors depicted Murray as a reckless physician who abandoned Jackson while he was under the effects of the powerful anesthetic propofol on June 25, 2009.
Attorneys for the Houston-based cardiologist countered that Jackson was addicted to the drug and self-administered the fatal dose when Murray left his bedroom.
Murray agreed to become Jackson’s personal physician as the singer prepared for a series of comeback concerts in 2009.
Murray did not testify during the trial but previously acknowledged to police that he gave Jackson propofol and other sedatives on the morning the singer died.

Back in 1976, when “Saturday Night Live” was still irreverent, Garrett Morris would do a bit called “News for the Hard of Hearing,” shouting through cupped hands. That’s a bit what it’s like watching Roland Emmerich’s “Anonymous,” a loud and ludicrous historical rewrite about the supposed hidden authorship of Shakespeare’s plays.Yes, from the man who brought you “Godzilla” and “2012,” the story of Shakespeare. If Shakespeare were a lowlife opportunist and murderer, that is. According to “Anonymous” <0×2014> which promulgates an “anti-Stratfordian” viewpoint <0×2014> the true author of Shakespeare’s plays was Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford.

I’ve spent the week in the other Washington — working in an office just a few blocks from, but within sight of, the White House — and in a few hours I board a flight that starts a series that will eventually land me in Rome, Italy.
Where I will be for the next month. Imagine my exhibiting a huge grin.
Not a whole lot going on there that has day-to-day relevance to those who live in Spokane, much less the Inland Northwest or even the U.S. as a whole. I mean, Amanda Knox has returned home, so we’ll call it good.
Still, I’ll blog when I can. Some people might be coming to Rome. Others like to dream of traveling there. I’ll talk about the stuff that we find interesting to do.
Until then, read 7. Go on S
